Listen Again v3.1

What's new:

- It works again!

- Can play any day of multi-day programmes.

Download

Troubleshooting: If you cannot play radio streams, and also cannot play streams directly from the BBC web site in Safari then RealPlayer is probbaly not installed or configured properly.

Let me know any other problems.

Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is required. If you're using Safari, click the download link. When the widget download is complete, Show Dashboard, click the Plus sign to display the Widget Bar and click the widget's icon in the Widget Bar to open it. If you're using a browser other than Safari, click the download link. When the widget download is complete, unarchive it and place it in /Library/Widgets/ in your home folder. Show Dashboard, click the Plus sign to display the Widget Bar and click the widget's icon in the Widget Bar to open it.

Hi,
loving the idea of this widget but can't seem to get it to work. I select the stream but pressing play does nothing. Any advice were I'm going wrong?

Cheers.

A.

Hi Andy, I take it you've tried the trouble-shooting tip that's higher up on this page, also that you have Real Player installed and working, and are running the latest version of the widget (3.1)?

Does anything appear at the bottom of the widget? e.g.: 'Connecting...', 'Buffering'?

I had the previous version of this widget and usd it a lot. Downloaded v3.1, and it worked great for a number of weeks. Then one day, no more music.

I saw the trouble shooting tip. However, I can listen to live feeds direct from the BBC site, and listen again from the BBC site. So it seems my Real Player is OK.

Any other ideas. I hope I can get it to work again.

I also meant to add that when I try to connect, I get the little transmitter symbol next to the program, but nothing appears at the bottom of the widget.

Hi Guys,
I'm really sorry that you're having trouble with this. I've just deleted, downloaded and rechecked the widget and it works fine on my MacBook.

I've assume it's a problem with RealPlayer.
Try this:
Remove RealPlayer from Applications to Trash.
Also Trash the RealPlayer plugin for Safari that lives in "Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plugins".
Restart the computer.
Download and install realplayer from here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/help/install/

Ensure you're using the 3.1 version of the widget as the older ones now don't work. The newer one is 3.1 and you can tell as programmes like Radio 4's 'PM' that have multiday episodes will show "Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri" under the programme details.

Please leave a comment with your results if you try this and I'll update the trouble shooting.

Hi Keilly,

Thanks for your suggestion. I followed your instructions and deleted and reinstalled RealPlayer. I also deleted and reinstalled the widget to ensure I have the latest version. However, it does not appear to have addressed the problem.

I can still listen to "Listen Again" shows directly from the BBC website, but not via the widget. When I slect a show to listen to, as before I get the 'Now playing' icon, but nothing comes up in the bottom of the widget.

Any other thoughts? Interesting it is working fine on your MacBook. I am running OSX 10.4.10.

Hi Graham,
Sorry you are still having this problem. I have just bought a new Macbook Pro and the widget works fine. So it must be a configuration problem on your system! If nothing comes up at the bottom of the widget it is probably because RealPlayer isn't starting at all.

So! Try and reset RealPlayer.

The trick, I think, will be to completely remove RealPlayer before re-installing it. I've looked around on a few forums there seem to be quite a few people with RealProblems. Usually some magic trick to remove a particular file and reinstall works. I recommend searching Google and seeing if any of the suggestions help. Sorry I can't be more help here.

One more thing. When you listen to the streams directly from the web site, can you verify that its RealPlayer playing them not Microsoft Media Player.

One final thing, Leopard sports Safari 3. Hopefully a upgrade, especially a clean install as possible will fix this.

Hi Keilly,

Since my previous post and reply, having completely shut down the machine and re-booted, my Listen Again widget is now working. So maybe the re-boot was required post re-installing RealPlayer to get everything hooked up.

Anyway, god news from my perspective is that the widget is again working and I can enjoy my favourite BBC shows quicky and easily. Good news for you is that you now know that your fix works. Seems RealPlayer is a bit fickle.

Thanks again.

Graham
