Listen Again v3.33

Listen to the large archive of recent BBC Radio programmes directly from Dashboard.

Currently supports: Radio 1, 1xtra, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4, 5 live, 5 extra, 6 Music, 7, Asian Network, Radio Scotland, Radio Ulster, Radio Wales

Requires RealPlayer 10.1
Update, RealPlayer 11 doesn't play when Dashboard is hidden. Use RealPlayer 10.1

Download BBCListenAgain Widget

Shortcut Keys:
Space - Play/Pause
Up/Down - Volume
Left/Right - Skip
s - Stop
v - Voiceover feedback
p - Focus on station popup

What's new:
3.33
- Fixed to work with another iPlayer change
- Added auto update mechanism
- Pressing the 'v' key will enable additional spoken feedback.

3.31
- Descriptions of programmes fixed (broken due to BBC slightly rearranging their iPlayer content)

3.3
- Works with new BBC iPlayer website
- Accessibility: Voiceover use is detected and certain actions are spoken if turned on.
- Better font resizing
- Busy feedback

This has been developed and tested on Mac 10.5

VoiceOver users: when selecting stations use VoiceOver keys with the arrows to select the station from the menu.

Troubleshooting:
Try and play directly from the BBC website. If it works there then it will almost certainly work in Dashboard. If not the problem has historically been issues with RealPlayer - try uninstalling and reinstalling RealPlayer using the version from the BBC website. Reboot after the reinstall to restart Dashboard.

Let me know any other problems.

Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is required. If you're using Safari, click the download link. When the widget download is complete, Show Dashboard, click the Plus sign to display the Widget Bar and click the widget's icon in the Widget Bar to open it. If you're using a browser other than Safari, click the download link. When the widget download is complete, unarchive it and place it in /Library/Widgets/ in your home folder. Show Dashboard, click the Plus sign to display the Widget Bar and click the widget's icon in the Widget Bar to open it.

Hi Keilly

First of all, thank you for a wonderful widget.
I've been using it every day to listen to the World Service for ages (3.1 or 3.2). I just updated and lost access to BBCw.

No going back possible, eh?

Thanks again

Peter

Amazing, been looking for this forever. feature request: a search/filter box would make this even better!

Thanks for this!

Peter, the World Service might still be accessible using older versions of the widget (it is still on the old BBC ListenAgain system rather than the newer iPlayer one that the newer widget uses - I expect it to transition over at some point).
All the old widget versions are available on this site. Just remove your newer one via the Dashboard Manager Widgets first.

That should say 'Dashboard - Manage Widgets'. Good luck!

Thanks Keilly

I thought I'd already tried it, but I just downloaded 3.1 and have got the World Service back.

Cheers

Hi Keilly,

I was wondering if I could ask you for another favor.
If you find out that the World Service has moved from the old ListenAgain system to the new iPlayer, could you add the info on your blog? (I miss being able to pause/skip)

Thanks

Keilly,

Great widget, I have been using it for a while now and thanks to "Amnesty Singles" I run it as an app on the desktop.

A question... where are the colours for the alternate list view stored? I've been trying to tweak the colours to be less jarring/distracting alongside my usual apps and cannot find where the list view colours (and fonts) are stored...

Any chance you could let me know?

Neil Cochrane said...

Hey Mick, glad you like it.

The colours are in the SafariStyle.css right at the end:

.even {
background-color: #FFDDDD;
}

.odd {
background-color: #FFFFFF;
}

You'll probably have to reload the widget after you make the changes.

keilly,

Thank you, that works a treat :-) and thanks again for making this widget in the 1st place: the widget really helps me while studying.

Mick.

I seem to have lost the option to listen Live. Intentional?

Neil Cochrane said...

Not intentional. The BBC must have rearranged their web-site slightly. I'll try an fix it in the next version.

Neil Cochrane said...

Hi Cyh, it's probably because of the Real Player version. Please see the top of this page.

For a couple of days now the widget doesn't show listings. It seems to download them (from looking at traffic),but the listing area stays blank.

Thanks for all your efforts

vazadouro, using version 3.33 with Real Player 10 on a G4

Hey everyone, there's a new version of the widget that fixes the issues preventing live and archived programmes playing. If you have version 3.33 you should be prompted to upgrade when you enter dashboard. If not grab the upgrade at this page:

Have fun listening!
